Townes Van Zandt Picture
Townes Van Zandt(1944-1997) was a singer-songwriter, born in Texasto a life on the road. Van Zandt was master of the small, intimate folkperformance, such as the July 1973 show that became Live At The Old Quarter Houston, Texas, the double album on Tomato Records. As the Austin Chroniclewrites of the re-released CD, "Alone with a guitar, he hushes the crowd with his visionary tunes that are by turns haunting and eccentric, yet filled with beauty and dark shadows." Despite chronic battles with alcoholism and depression, his songwriting displayed a sense of humour and introspection, truth and beauty. Many artists cite Townes' influence on their music, with covers of his songs recorded by the likes of Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Jeffrey Foucault, Cowboy Junkies, The Be Good Tanyasand others. His son John T.

Gone Too Long Lyrics

Townes Van Zandt

By townes van zandt
I been gone too long
Too long gone, too long
I been travelin hard
I just cant get back home
Its hard to believe I done all that much wrong
I wanna find me a seven
Sevens aint so bad
Sevens about the best friend
This poor boy ever had
You get you a seven
One and six dont seem so sad
I aint bein alone
Bein alone too long
Im sick of singin this same ol lonesome song
Im gonna find me a seven and darlin
Im comin home
Its lonesome down along this ol highway
Darlin I aint stayin here
I dont intend to stay
You may not want me Im comin home anyway
When the sun comes creepin
Over the mountain side
I at least lay down and tell myself I tried
I aint like somebody gonna sit
In no ditch and cry
I been gone too long
Too long gone, too long
Travelin hard I just cant get back home
Its hard to believe I done all that much wrong
Too long gone
Too long gone, too long
Travelin hard, I just cant get back home
Its hard to believe I done all that much wrong
Its hard to believe I done all that much wrong
