Townes Van Zandt Picture
Townes Van Zandt(1944-1997) was a singer-songwriter, born in Texasto a life on the road. Van Zandt was master of the small, intimate folkperformance, such as the July 1973 show that became Live At The Old Quarter Houston, Texas, the double album on Tomato Records. As the Austin Chroniclewrites of the re-released CD, "Alone with a guitar, he hushes the crowd with his visionary tunes that are by turns haunting and eccentric, yet filled with beauty and dark shadows." Despite chronic battles with alcoholism and depression, his songwriting displayed a sense of humour and introspection, truth and beauty. Many artists cite Townes' influence on their music, with covers of his songs recorded by the likes of Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Jeffrey Foucault, Cowboy Junkies, The Be Good Tanyasand others. His son John T.

Delta Mama Blues Lyrics

Townes Van Zandt

By townes van zandt
Come away with me,
My little delta boy
I wanna be your delta mama for awhile
And if you stay youll see
That I bring you lots of joy
I turn those little teardrops to a smile
Well, if youre blue dont cry
Just wander right downtown
You can find your delta mama waitin there
Well, I thought you knew that i
Would never let you down
I can ease your mind and take away your cares
Come away with me,
My little delta boy
I wanna be your delta mama for awhile
And if you stay youll see
That I bring you lots of joy
I turn those little teardrops to a smile
Well, if the grass goes brown
Dont you hang your head too low
Well, there aint no need for you to sit and pine
If youll just ask around
Im sure someone will know
Just exactly what it takes to get you back to feelin fine
Well, if you dont know by now
What Ive been tryin so hard to say
Well my delta boy Im afraid youre up to tight
But you take it slow and somehow
You come meandering out my way
And Ill take you in my arms and make it right
Ah, come away with me,
My little delta boy
I wanna be your delta mama for awhile
And if you stay youll see
That I bring you lots of joy
I turn those little teardrops to a smile
