Townes Van Zandt Picture
Townes Van Zandt(1944-1997) was a singer-songwriter, born in Texasto a life on the road. Van Zandt was master of the small, intimate folkperformance, such as the July 1973 show that became Live At The Old Quarter Houston, Texas, the double album on Tomato Records. As the Austin Chroniclewrites of the re-released CD, "Alone with a guitar, he hushes the crowd with his visionary tunes that are by turns haunting and eccentric, yet filled with beauty and dark shadows." Despite chronic battles with alcoholism and depression, his songwriting displayed a sense of humour and introspection, truth and beauty. Many artists cite Townes' influence on their music, with covers of his songs recorded by the likes of Emmylou Harris, Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, Guy Clark, Steve Earle, Jeffrey Foucault, Cowboy Junkies, The Be Good Tanyasand others. His son John T.

A Song For Lyrics

Townes Van Zandt

By townes van zandt
Ribbons of love
Please keep me true sane
Until I reach home on the morrow
Never never to wander again
Im weak and Im weary of sorrow
London to dublin
Australia to perth
I gazed at your sky
I tasted your earth
Sung out my heart
For what it was worth
Never again shall I ramble
Theres nowhere left
In this world where to go
My arms, my legs theyre a-tremblin
Thoughts both clouded and blue as the sky
Not even worth the rememberin
Now as I stumble
And reel to my bed
All that Ive done
All that Ive said
Means nothin to me
Id soon as be dead
All of this world be forgotten
No words of comfort
No words of advice
Nothin to offer a stranger
Gone the love, gone the spite
It just doesnt matter no longer
My skys getting far
The grounds gettin close
My self goin crazy
The way that it does
Ill lie on my pillow
And sleep if I must
Too late to wish Id been stronger
Too late to wish Id been stronger
